A Midsummer’s Happy Hour
By Meghan McCarthy
www.mmmccarthy.com

It’s hot. Really hot (Well, if not now, wait 5 minutes). The kind of hot you can’t escape until there’s an ice cold cocktail gushing down your throat. Like your own personal air conditioner, frosty beer, chilly sangria, mixed drinks on the rocks and chilled wine can turn the hottest summer day into a breezy, relaxing treat. Even when your baking on the rooftops of Boulder.

Here’re a few of our favorite places to soak up some rays, view the foothills and enjoy a midsummer’s happy hour . . .

The Rio, 3-6 pm, daily
I ask you, what could be better than a frosty, frozen, flavored marg at the Rio? A frosty, frozen, flavored marg on the roof of the Rio. Boulder’s newest rooftop bar, The Rio has totally upped the ante for patios the world over by offering their legendary margaritas on
what some might argue is the best rooftop in our fair city.

Bacaro, 4-6:30 pm, daily
This happy hour is nice and long and features some great drink specials and an amazing discounted tapas menu from which you can enjoy starters like bruschetta, pizzas and salads. We like to start with a pitcher of their yummy sangria – so refreshing! See listing

The Foundry, everyday until 6 pm
Arguably the best rooftop in Boulder, The Foundry features the best views and tanning opportunities around. Not to mention drink specials that will keep you refreshed for hours without breaking the bank. See listing

West End Tavern, 3-6 pm, Mon-Fri
Even though construction in recent years has limited the views offered at the West End, this is still a summer favorite. Enjoy shade under their canopies or sit in the sun while you sip drink specials and sample their happy hour menu. A classic Boulder rooftop experience. See listing

K’s China, 3-8 pm, daily
You really can’t beat K’s China for fun in the sun. If you haven’t already tried it, we recommend you block out a few happy hours on an afternoon when you won’t be held accountable for the remainder of the day, and head to K’s for some rooftop pitchers.
Enough said. See listing

The Kitchen Upstairs, 5:30-6:30 pm, daily
Technically not a rooftop, but nonetheless a place to catch a bird’s eye view of downtown while enjoying a gourmet tasting hour. Perfect for when the weather starts to go south, or if you’ve totally baked yourself on rooftops all week. A good option for regular summer happy hour enthusiasts who need a little shade.
