Off the Beaten Path: Dolan’s Restaurant

It’s 5 p.m. and nothing sounds better than unwinding at happy hour. But, as you probably know, trying to park downtown after a long day at the office will wind you even tighter than the client who had to talk to you at 4:59.

Avoid the headache and make your way to Dolan’s for a stress-free happy hour.

We took our own advice and found plentiful parking and killer deals at this established Boulder restaurant.

While many local happy hours advertise great food specials, but skimp on portions, Dolan’s offers full-size plates from their regular bar menu at a generous discount from the hours of 4-7 p.m. Which brings us to our next point, that being the flexibility to make it to happy hour even if you have to work late. Nothing disappoints more than rushing from the office only to miss happy hour by a couple of minutes.

Back to the deals . . . all happy hour food is $5.50, including their huge cheeseburger, which allows you turn happy hour into dinner. Add an ice cold Bud for $2.50, and you’ve got a full tummy and a buzz for $8.

We tried their most popular app, the Blackened Ahi Tuna Quesadilla, as well as the Baked Brie and Roasted Garlic, Calamari, Muscles and Crab Cakes. Their menu also features various other seafood apps, sandwiches and even a Chicago-style hot dog. Come hungry or bring buddies to share the giant portions.

Not totally famished, but need something to take the edge off? Sip wine, martinis, well drinks and margs for $3.50 or cool off with $2.50 select beers and $3.75 microbrew drafts. Even Guinness goes for $4.50, if you’d prefer to drink your dinner.

The bottom line – Dolan’s is the perfect place to chill out at the end of the day. And the money you save in parking will probably cover your drink.
